Allen Johnson
Wins O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals
Topeka, Sunday: Allen Johnson driver of
2008 Dodge Stratus

“I told the media at the end of the track that I felt like we should have won 10 races the last year and a half, and this is the first one,” said Johnson. “We’ve had the car, and I just haven’t done my job very good the last year or so. I knew a win would come, but I’ve been very, very frustrated with myself, to be honest. I hadn’t done my job really well for the last year, but I’ve really been working on it. I feel like I’ve got my mojo back, and we’re going to do well the rest of the year.

“When the car’s doing as good as it did today, driving it is very fun, very easy. I felt a little pressure in the final because I know Mike, and he always makes a good run against us, and he did. We didn’t take him lightly; we knew he had it. I felt a little pressure, and thank goodness I did my job.”

Johnson’s quick day began with a 6.683 that matched his qualifying time and gave him the win over Ronnie Humphrey. He followed it up with a pair of 6.7-second passes to defeat Warren Johnson and Greg Anderson and advance to final No. 16.

Jason Line
Wins NHRA ACDelco Gatornationals

Las Vegas, Sunday: Jason Line
driver of 2008 Pontiac GXP
Gainesville, Sunday: Jason Line the picture of consistency on race day, leaving on his opponent in each of the four rounds and posting elapsed times in the low 6.6-second range, capping his day with a hole shot win over Allen Johnson in the final. This was Line’s second win at Gainesville Raceway, second of the season and 17th of his career, allowing him to extend his lead in the championship standings to 57 pts.

“I had a good feeling this morning, which put me in the right frame of mind to drive well,” said Line. “That certainly doesn’t guarantee you’re going to win, but today the Summit team was able to get the job done. The Gatornationals are such a huge race. There were a lot of Pro Stock fans here this weekend, and to win here is as special as anywhere on the circuit. It feels really good to win for Summit, and I want to thank them for sticking with us. It was also great to have my whole family with me here, and we were even able to convince Ken (team owner Black) to stay for the winner’s circle pictures, which meant a lot to me.

“My Summit Racing Pontiac was extremely steady all weekend – it may not have been the fastest in qualifying, but it was consistent, and on Sunday, we were the quickest in three of the four rounds. I want to thank Rob (crew chief Downing) and everyone on the team for giving me such a great car. It was just a special day all around.”
